Seated half length portrait of a boy of the Rashid Bedouin taken by Wilfred Thesiger during his party's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, likely in the region of Al Humrah sands. The boy is likely Raikan, the son of Salih. He sits in camp wearing a plain ghutra (headscarf) tied around ear-length curly hair and a light coloured thobe (long shirt). Behind him blankets and supplies sit in the sand. Salih and Raikan accompanied Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party from Al Ain to Al Dhafra sands. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
