View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking through Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, ride through a large salt flat (sabkha) with their baggage camels. The flat is sparsely dotted with salt bushes. The sands in the foreground are bare except for a few scattered tufts of vegetation. Behind the men a wind-rippled dune rises in the distance.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
