Full length portrait of one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's retainers standing with a Batina camel at Al Ain oasis. On the left a thoroughbred Batina camel stands in sand amongst tufts of dry vegetation. The camel stands in profile, facing towards the right. It is saddled with an Omani style wooden saddle. On the right a bearded man wearing a dark coloured thobe (long shirt) and ghutra (headscarf) holds the camel's head rope. In the background trees, grass and bushes grow in the sand. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
