Description
Full length profile portrait of an Arab man, one of Wilfred Thesiger's guides, standing with Ghazala ('the gazelle'), a famous thoroughbred Batina camel, during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. The man, a retainer of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, stands to the left of Ghazala, holding the camel's head rope in his hands. Ghazala stands in profile looking into the far left. Ghazala was owned by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and renowned for its beauty and speed. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan loaned Ghazala to Wilfred Thesiger for his journey from Al Ain oasis to Sharjah. In the background bushes and grass grow in the sand.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
