View of three members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party riding across sand dunes in Liwa oasis. In the foreground small wind-rippled waves mark a sand dune on which Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions ride. On the left one rider leads the group on his camel, while close behind two more men follow with their mounts and baggage camels. Behind them a few scattered tufts of qassis (sedge) dot the ridge behind them. In the far distance sand dunes stretch out in every direction. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
