Description
View of dunes in Al Dhafra sands of the Rub' al Khali, taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey to Baynunah. In the right foreground the edges of two dunes meet in a depression between the dunes. The lee slope of the dune on the left is made up of light sand, while the wind-facing slope of the dune on the right is made up of darker, heavier sand. A few clumps of vegetation grow in the depression between the two dunes. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
