Three-quarter length profile portrait of Salim bin Ghabaisha, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, at a well in the region south-west of Al Ain. Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, holds a length of rope and a leather water bag. Behind him on the right a camel drinks water from a cooking pot held by someone outside the frame, while on the left another camel scratches its haunches. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
