Description
View of the rear of a j?lb?t [jalboot], a small type of dhow (sailboat), in the Persian Gulf between Dubai Emirate and Bahrain Island. A small rowboat is moored alongside the stern of a j?lb?t in the midst of a calm flat ocean. A number of sailors are visible on deck, while above them a large white sail flies from a mast. In the far distance a few dhows can be seen along the horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
