Description

View of two sailors on a dhow (sailboat) travelling through the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Bahrain Island. Two men perch on the main yard of a dhow near the mast. On the left one of the men holds onto the mast with one arm while perching on a lower yard. Next to him another man climbs up onto the yard using a nearby rope. He is also stepping onto one of the sails tied below the yard. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
