Standing full length portrait of Wilfred Thesiger and his camel taken during his party's journey from the As Saruq sands to Abu Dhabi. Wilfred Thesiger stands in a large expanse of flat sand to the left of the camel on which he made his second journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali). Wilfred Thesiger is standing in profile and looks out into the far left distance. He is wearing a headscarf, a long shirt (thobe), and a khanjar (dagger) in a cartridge belt around his waist. In one hand he holds a camel stick and in the other he holds a rifle and the head rope for his camel. On the right the camel is saddled and heavily loaded with gear.
