Seated portrait of a tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin at a Manasir encampment in the Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. An older man with a long bushy grey beard and short hair sits in the sand with his arm resting on his knee. He wears a plain ghutra (headscarf) hanging down over his neck and a light coloured thobe (long shirt). On the left a metal bowl lies in the sand near a dry bush. In the distance beyond a number of trees grow in the sand. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
