Description
Standing full length portrait of Wilfred Thesiger and his camel taken during his party's journey from the As Saruq sands to Abu Dhabi. Wilfred Thesiger stands in a large expanse of flat sand to the left of the camel on which he made his second journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali). He is wearing a headscarf, a long shirt (thobe), and a khanjar (dagger) in a cartridge belt around his waist. In one hand he holds a camel stick and in the other he holds a rifle and the head rope for his camel. His camel is saddled and heavily loaded with gear, and looks off into the right distance.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
