Description
View of a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a Bani Yas palm grove and settlement near Radum in Liwa oasis. In the foreground one of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin travelling companions walks past a camel couched on a sand flat beside a large palm. All around the palm piles of riding and camping gear lie in the sand. The flat is dotted with tufts of qassis (sedge), palms and salt bushes. In the far distance a settlement of 'arish huts sits high up the slope of a dune in the far centre distance. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
