Description
View of one of Wilfred Thesiger's Bedouin companions standing in front of Al Jahili fort in Al Ain. In the foreground a man in a white thobe (ankle-length shirt) walks across an open sandy area. A large tree sits in the foreground at the far right. In the background the stepped watchtower of Al Jahili fort sits on the slope of a dune. Brick ruins lie below the watchtower on the far left. In the far distance three palm trees grow behind the walls of Al Jahili fort. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
