Description

View of sailors on a j?lb?t [jalboot], a small type of dhow (sailboat), in the Persian Gulf between Dubai Emirate and Bahrain Island. Three sailors stand on the deck of the j?lb?t near the mast, from which a large sail flies. At the far right, two men stand in a cockpit that is shaded with a cloth canopy. The ocean surrounding the j?lb?t is flat and calm, and above the sky is empty of clouds. In the far distance a beach is dotted with tall trees runs along the horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
