View of five members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking across low dunes in Liwa oasis. In the central foreground three of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions ride camels across a sand dune dotted with small tufts of grass. On the right two men follow on foot with their camels. In the left background a sand fence made of palm fronds lines the crest of a dune. In the distance sand dunes dotted with a few tufts of qassis (sedge) stretch out in every direction. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
