Description

View of a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party crossing a salt flat in Al Batin sands, near Liwa oasis, in the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali). The man, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, is riding his camel past a small triangular hill in the midst of a vast salt flat (sabkha). A baggage camel, tethered to the back of his mount, follows behind him. Little vegetation grows in the sand in the foreground. In the far distance bushes grow along the edge of the flat, below a high dune massif which fills the horizon.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
