Description
Half-length portrait of one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's retainers at Al Ain. The man wears a thobe (long shirt) and an embroidered headscarf (ghutra) topped with thin black agal (head ropes). The handle of a khanjar (dagger) can be seen at his waist. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
