Full length profile portrait of a thoroughbred Batina camel in Al Ain oasis. A Batina camel stands in sand and sparse dry grass, facing towards the left. It is saddled with an Omani style wooden saddle. In the background a low rock mound sits in the distance, and further beyond a few trees and bushes grow in the sandy soil. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
