Standing profile portrait of Musallim bin Al Kamam, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, in the Al Dhafra sands during the party's journey to Baynunah. Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands in the centre of a stretch of flat sand rippled by the wind. He holds a rifle over his shoulder and pokes his camel stick into a clump of qassis (sedge) on the right. Behind him a dry bush and scattered tufts of vegetation grow in the sand. In the far distance low rolling dunes dotted with vegetation run into the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
