View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking across a sand dune between near a Bani Yas settlement in Liwa oasis. Four of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions walk with their camels in a line in front of a high ridge of sand dotted with a few clumps of vegetation. In the distance beyond a number of 'arish huts occupied by Bani Yas villagers sit high up on a far sand dune. Beneath the settlement groves of date palms grow on the sand flat below. In the far distance sand dunes stretch out across the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
