Description

View of sailors changing the sail on a dhow (sailboat) travelling through the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Bahrain Island. In the foreground a lifeboat sits on the deck of a dhow. Behind it three sailors stand of the cockpit, holding a sail tied into a long roll. Around them a number of men rest in various places on the dhow. In the far distance a jagged rocky outcrop of land rises above the calm sea. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
