View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking through Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, lead a caravan of camels along a low dune ridge at the edge of a salt flat (sabkha). One man stands at a low point in the ridge with his two camels. The rest of the caravan is walking towards the right, behind the right dune ridge. The sand in the foreground is entirely bare of any vegetation. In the background at the left the salt flat can be seen, encircled by high dunes.
