Description

Half length standing portrait of Ahmed, Captain Haji Mansur's mate, on a dhow (sailboat) in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain. Ahmed stands on the deck of the ship, wearing a ghutra (headscarf) and a T-shirt. Behind him is the bow of the dhow. In the distance behind him the sea is gently rippled by the wind. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
