Seated portrait of an Arab man of the Al Bu Shams in Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. An old man with a curly grey beard sits with a striped blanket hanging over one of his shoulders sits resting his forearms on his knees, looking into the far right. He wears a dark thobe (long shirt) and his eyes are shaded by a plain ghutra (headscarf). Behind him thick bare trees and dry bushes fill the background him. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
