Seated portrait of a tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin at Wilfred Thesiger's party's campsite in the Baynunah sands. The man has a thick beard and buckteeth crouches in the sand in front of a bush. He wears a square patterned ghutra (headscarf) draped over his head and shoulders, a light thobe (long shirt) and holds a camel stick against his shoulder. Behind him camping gear lies in the sand in the background. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
