Description

Profile portrait of Wilfred Thesiger's camel, a thoroughbred Omani camel, with Warad, the party's saluki hunting dog. Wilfred Thesiger's camel sits couched in the sand facing towards the left. She is saddled with a dark sheepskin and carries bags and a rifle. Warad rests beside in the sand at her shoulder. Behind them a low rolling dune dotted with scattered vegetation fills the background. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
