Description
View of sailors changing the sail on a dhow (sailboat) travelling through the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Bahrain Island. A number of sailors work on deck around a large sail that hangs down from a yard. In the centre one man stands on the cockpit holding on to the yard. Behind him two men untie the sail from the yard. In the central foreground one man bends down in front of the cockpit, while at the far right another crouches in front of the hanging sail. The sea is empty and calm behind the boat. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
