View of three members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking in the Al Dhafra sands, north-west of Liwa oasis. In the foreground clumps of qassis (sedge) grow on a flat stretch of sand. In the left distance two of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions sit on their camels, which are grazing on bushes. Further beyond a third man rides his camel followed by a baggage camel towards far dunes. In the distance beyond low rolling dunes dotted with scattered vegetation continue into the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
