View of a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking across a sand dune between oases in Liwa oasis. A large shrub grows on a small mound of sand in the central foreground. In the left distance one of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions leads a camel up a sand dune dotted with tufts of qassis (sedge). The dune slopes into a deep depression on the far right. In the distance beyond sand dunes rise in rolling ridges towards a far crest below a hazy sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
