Description
Seated portrait of Muhammad, a sheikh of the Rashid Bedouin, sitting on the ground at his encampment in the Ramlat ar Rabbad sands near Bir al Tawil. Muhammad, an elderly man with a long white beard, is tying fibres onto a camel saddle. Behind him two couched camels rest in the sand. Wilfred Thesiger and his men stayed with Muhammad and his extended family in the Ramlat ar Rabbad for a few days during their first crossing of the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) in December 1946.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
