Description
Portrait of a man with whom Wilfred Thesiger sailed aboard a sailboat (dhow) in the Abu Dhabi Islands. On the right a man balances on the ship's rail, holding on to rigging ropes. Oars and barrels rest in the bottom of the boat. At the left a man sits on one of the barrels. In the background a sail is rigged to the ship's rail. In the distance beyond the ocean is still and calm. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's week and a half long sailing trip around the Abu Dhabi Islands with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and their retainers in March 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
