Description
Seated portrait of Muhammad, a sheikh of the Rashid Bedouin, at his encampment in the Ramlat ar Rabbad sands near Bir al Tawil. Muhammad, an elderly man with a long white beard, sits next to a camel saddle. He is tying a bundle of fibres together. Wilfred Thesiger and his men stayed with Muhammad and his extended family in the Ramlat ar Rabbad for a few days during their first crossing of the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) in December 1946.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
