Description

View of a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking in the Al Dhafra sands, north-west of Liwa oasis. In the central foreground a tall scraggly bush grows on a stretch of flat sand. Just beyond one of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions walks with his camel across the sand. The sand is dotted with sparse vegetation and a few large bushes. In the distance low rolling dunes continue into the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
