Portrait of sailors rowing a dhow (sailboat) on which Wilfred Thesiger sailed with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his retainers. On the left a number of men sit on the gunwale of a sailboat, holding wooden oars. At the centre one man works below deck, and behind him three men and two boys rest on the foredeck. On the far right, a man holding a can stands beside three large drum barrels. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's week and a half long sailing trip around the Abu Dhabi Islands with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and their retainers in March 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
