View of sailors hoisting sails on a dhow (sailboat) travelling through the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Bahrain Island. In the foreground a large folded sail sits on deck in front of a mast. Nearby a number of sailors line up on deck next to a wooden pulley. Above them one man stands on a wooden yard, holding onto on a rope with his left arm. Behind him a large sail fills with wind and blows back against a mast and the cockpit. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
