Standing profile portrait of Musallim bin Al Kamam, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, in the Al Dhafra sands during the party's journey to Baynunah. On the left Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands facing towards the right on a stretch of sand dotted with qassis (sedge). He holds a rifle over his shoulder and leans on his camel stick. On the right a few dry bushes grow on a flat below a low dune. In the background a patch of thick vegetation grows behind a low dune. In the distance rolling dunes continue into the far horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
