Group portrait of the four members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party who accompanied him on his first crossing of the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter). Mabkhaut bin Arbain, a tribesman of the Bayt Gidad lineage of Bayt Kathir Bedouin, stands on the far left. Musallim bin Tafl, also of the Bayt Kathir Bedouin, stands second from the left. Muhammad al Auf, a tribesman of the Bayt Mbarik lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands second from the right. Salim bin Kabina, a young tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands on the far right. Each man is holding a rifle, likely a gift from Wilfred Thesiger.
