Three-quarter length seated portrait of Captain Haji Mansur on his dhow (sailboat) in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain. Haji Mansur, the nakhoda or captain of the dhow on which Wilfred Thesiger travelled from Dubai to Bahrain Island, sits on a platform at the bow of the boat. He is wearing a T-shirt and a wraparound skirt and has a taqiyah cap on his head. Behind him a wooden yard has been lashed to the bow of the dhow, and a line of chain runs across the platform. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
