View of Wilfred Thesiger's sailing companions aboard a dhow (sailboat) in the Abu Dhabi islands. In the foreground at the far right a man sits on deck. Behind him a man climbs up from below deck. At the centre a group of men sit to one side of the boat's mast. The man sitting next to a large barrel holds a small porcelain cup. The man across from him holds a tea or coffee pot in his left hand, and further along a number of men sit along the ship's rail. In the background another group of men sits in the bow. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's week and a half long sailing trip around the Abu Dhabi Islands with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and their retainers in March 1948.
