View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a well in Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Three of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, dig out a well while a few camels wait expectantly nearby. 'Amair bin 'Omar stands in the well at the far left. He is holding a length of rope in both hands. The rope is attached to a bucket which the man in the centre (Salim bin Kabina?) his tipping out. At the right, a third man (Salim bin Ghabaisha?) watches the proceedings. The sand surrounding the well is littered with camel droppings.
