Seated portrait of an elderly tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin and a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a Manasir encampment in the Baynunah sands. Two men sit in the sand beside a fire surrounded by supplies and equipment. On the right an elderly tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin sits cross-legged in front of a bush. He has a thick beard and wears a ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his head and a light coloured thobe (long shirt). On the right Sahail bin Tahi, a tribesman of the Mudairiba lineage of Rashid Bedouin, kneels beside a fire drinking from a small cup. In front of them an urn sits on the fire and cooking equipment and supplies lie in the sand surrounding them. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
