Portrait of Wilfred Thesiger's sailing companions on a dhow (sailboat) in the Abu Dhabi islands. A number of men crouch on the deck of a dhow which is leaning towards the right. Some of men crowd around the mast at the centre of the deck, while others sit or stand on the gunwales. The water surrounding the dhow is flat with small waves. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's week and a half long sailing trip around the Abu Dhabi Islands with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and their retainers in March 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
