Description

Half length standing portrait of Salim bin Ghabaisha, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, at a well near Sharjah city during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to Sharjah. Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands in front of some camels resting in the sand. He holds one hand up, next to his cheek. He wears a thobe (long shirt) crossed with leather suspenders attached to a cartridge belt and an embroidered ghutra (headscarf). In the background a vast flat plain dotted with bushes fills the distance.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
