Description
View of a date palm grove in Liwa oasis. In the central foreground a tall date palm grows in the sand amongst scattered salt bushes and clumps of qassis (sedge) on a salt flat. In the left background many date palms grow in a depression, likely a grove cultivated by local Bani Yas villagers. Further beyond salt bushes and cultivated palms grow across the flat, which is bordered on the left side by a long high wall of sand. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
