Profile portrait of Wilfred Thesiger's camel, a thoroughbred Omani camel, couched in the Al Dhafra sands during the party's journey to Baynunah. The camel is couched in profile, facing to the right, in rippled sand marked by footprints. The camel is saddled with a dark sheepskin and carries bags and a rifle on its back. In the far distance beyond a stretch of flat sand marked with a few low dunes dotted runs into the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
