View of Bani Yas villagers at their settlement in Liwa Oasis. A group of Bani Yas villagers made up of boys and men pose in a line in front of a fenced enclosure made of palm fronds (locally called saaf). All of the villagers wear long shirts and headscarves. The man on the far right holds a rifle, while one of the boys on the left holds a camel stick. In the background a young boy runs out of a door in the palm frond fence. Behind the fence a number of 'arish huts made of palm fronds are visible inside the enclosure. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
