Description
Half length portrait of Salim bin Ghabaisha, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, in Liwa oasis. Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, sits looking directly forward, his head leaning slightly to one side. He wears a dark ghutra (headscarf) and a light coloured thobe (long shirt) topped with a cartridge belt and leather suspenders. A camel stick leans against his shoulder. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
