Full length standing portrait of Ahmed, Captain Haji Mansur's mate, on a dhow (sailboat) in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain. Ahmed stands on a platform at the bow of the boat in shade cast by the sail above him. He wears a T-shirt and wraparound skirt, and holds lengths of rope over his shoulder. Behind him two men sit on the far end of a bow yard, working with a length of rope. In the far distance land is visible along the horizon beyond an expanse of water gently rippled by the wind. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
