Portrait of Musallim bin Al Kamam, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, standing with a camel and a falcon in the Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands in soft sand in the foreground holding a peregrine falcon. Musallim bin Al Kamam wears a ghutra (headscarf) and a light coloured thobe (long shirt) topped with a cartridge belt and leather suspenders. The falcon rests on a mangalah (cuff) on his arm. It is blinded with a leather hood. On the left a thoroughbred Omani camel is couched in the sand, its head next to Musallim bin Al Kamam's knees. In background small shrubs and bushes grow in soft sand below a sky dotted with sparse low clouds.
